Dar Bjorn is a pioneering neurological home in Malta, founded by Bjorn Formosa in 2017. It provides 24/7 nursing care and specialized treatment for individuals with severe neurological conditions, such as ALS and MS. With two homes in Qormi and Żebbuġ, Dar Bjorn hosts 43 permanent residents and is committed to improving their quality of life. The foundation also works on ambitious projects like Dar Bjorn Respite, aiming to extend care to more individuals. Donations are crucial to sustaining and expanding the impactful work of Dar Bjorn.

Qormi since 2017
DAR Bjorn Qormi is the first of its kind neurological home in Malta, inaugurated in November 2017. Founded by ALS sufferer Bjorn Formosa, the facility provides 24/7 nursing care and specialized treatment for 13 residents with severe neurological conditions, including ALS and MS. DAR Bjorn Qormi is equipped with the latest medical technology and an intelligent smart home system, ensuring residents receive the highest standard of care. All services and equipment are provided free of charge, thanks to the continuous efforts of the ALS Malta Foundation, supported by government financing for day-to-day care activities.

Żebbuġ since 2023
DAR Bjorn Żebbuġ is a groundbreaking neurological home in Malta, marking a significant expansion of the DAR Bjorn initiative. This facility opened its doors on May 4, 2023. Situated in Żebbuġ, the home transformed an abandoned factory into a five-story haven with spacious rooms, natural light, and comprehensive facilities.
Designed to cater to the needs of 30 residents, DAR Bjorn Żebbuġ goes beyond providing 24/7 nursing care and specialized treatment. It features a range of amenities, including a playground, small shop, chapel, cafeteria, gym, and therapy pool. The first floor serves as a space for events and includes an art and whisky section, the proceeds of which go to support ALS Malta.

Respite coming soon
As an integral part of DAR Bjorn Żebbuġ, DAR Bjorn Respite aims to provide short-term care and support for individuals, allowing them a respite from their usual environment. This temporary relief not only benefits the residents but also provides a break for their families and caregivers who shoulder the responsibility of their care.
This noble endeavor, however, requires significant funding to become a reality. To support DAR Bjorn Respite and contribute to its success, DAR Bjorn organizes an annual telethon, bringing together celebrities, artists, and the community to raise funds and awareness. Donations during this event play a crucial role in making DAR Bjorn Respite a meaningful and impactful addition to the neurological care landscape in Malta.
